Dear Prospective High-school Students and Parents, Energy transforms the world, and we are transforming the energy! As a key factor impacting the history of human progress, energy has been one of the most important topics in the world. The unsustainable consumption of fossil energy has urged us to explore sustainable energy resources and strategies in the future. Revolution in energy generation, conversion, delivery, storage and utilization will be the key to a bright and sustainable future. As a strategic development plan towards technological revolution in energy, the School of Energy Science and Engineering (SESE) at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) was founded in 2011. Since its foundation, SESE has aimed to serve for the state’s strategic demands and participate in the international competition as well as cooperation. Within a short 3-year development, SESE has already formed a UESTC-featured advanced energy program in scientific research and student training. The program, featured by so-called MIEEE (Material + Information + Electronic + Electrical -> Energy), takes advantage of the strong electronic & information programs at UESTC, and focuses on electrical energy, which takes up to 40 % of the total energy consumed by end users in the world. The research field spans from novel materials and devices for power generation as well as energy storage, to one of the on-going revolutions in energy industry – smart grid. We are working to search for cutting-edge solutions to our future energy needs and our teaching is designed for training students to own high-standard personality, team spirits, leadership skills and innovation abilities in the energy field. We understand that choosing a right place to pursue your college study is an important decision. The executive dean of the School of Energy Science and Engineering (SESE):
Dr. Huang Qi was born in 1976 in Guizhou Province, P.R. China. He is currently a professor and the executive dean of the School of Energy Science and Engineering (SESE), University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). He received his Ph.D degree from Arizona State University in 2003. Before that, He received his MS degree from Tsinghua University (in High Voltage Engineering) in 1999 and BS degree from Fuzhou University (in Power System Automation) in 1996.
He is a senior member of IEEE, and the founding director of the Key Lab of Power System Wide Area Measurement and Control, Sichuan Province. He is the reviewing expert for Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China and Ministry of Education of China. He is also a member of editorial board for several high-impact smart grid journals and reviewer for many high-impact power system journals. He has been the Chair of Technical Program Committee of International Conference on Smart Grid and Clean Energy Technologies (ICSGCE) since 2011.
He is the author or co-author of more than 140 technical papers (with 26 SCI-indexed and more than 80 EI-indexed). Dr. Huang’s current research interests include smart grid, power system high performance computing, power system instrumentation, and power system wide area measurement and control.
